Mesa police will be stepping up their DUI enforcement beginning on St. Patrick's Day thanks to a $60,000 grant.

The Mesa Police Department received the grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to supplement its already increased DUI enforcement.

Last year, Mesa police made 3,200 DUI arrests, an increase from the 2,500 arrest in 2005, police said.

The grant will help add patrol officers, especially on major holidays and special events.
